December Fun (and Learning)

Shhhh!!!   Don't tell them they're learning even when we're having FUN! December (so far) has been filled with Gingerbread. We read several different versions of The Gingerbread Man last week. We talked about the word "versions" and we also talked about drawing conclusions using our schema. Finally, we started making "text to text connections". This means that something in one book (text) reminds you of something else in another text. It is important to see how these connections help us understand what we read even better. We culminated our week by writing our own version of a Gingerbread Man story. Here are some of the pages we made:






Then we made our very own Gingerbread Man.  I'm telling you, I LOVE the creativity of a five and six year old!  It's so fun to let them "have at it" and just create.  Check out some of these amazing pieces of art: 





This week we are learning about "innovations" of a story.  As we read several different spin-offs of The Gingerbread Man.

We also got to do a little holiday shopping for our family and friends at Southside's Holiday Shop.  Check out the fun we had there:
